Extended outing to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve - 13-21 March, 2010

Due to the high demand for this outing and the first one having been fully booked we have reserved the above dates for a second trip. The itinerary and all other aspects remain the same.

The first of our extended outings for 2010 is an 9 day, 8 night adventure to the Central Kalahari in Botswana. Unlike last year when we went in April at the beginning of the dry season, this year we go in February, which is during the rainy season. This will mean that the plains will be green and the game abundant, and with it all the predators. I am sure many have seen pictures of Deception Valley with green grass and plenty of game. Well this is the time of the year for those type of photos. This is an adventure for those that love the bush and more particularly, the Kalahari. It is a combination of sand, heat, encounters with wild animals, sunsets and peace, all orchestrated to provide an unparalleled view of this splendid thirst land. This trip will transverse the entire Kalahari from Deception Valley in the North to Khutse in the South. Deception Valley can best be described as a long pan-like valley floor which winds its way between rows of dunes covered with dense thorn scrub. Islands of trees - Acacia of sundry shapes and sizes, from single trees to thick groves litter this valley. Here you will find abundant birdlife, especially raptors. During seasons of plentiful rain fall the plains are transformed into green and plains animals are plentiful, with all the big cats following then. The Central Kalahari is the last unspoilt Eden in Botswana. Driving challenges you can expect to encounter include very heavy sand on narrow single-lane tracks. It is advisable that you have a routine suspension check out if you plan to accompany us on this trip. Off-Road trailers can be used on this adventure.

The adventure starts of at Kwa Nokeng Lodge in Botswana where we will camp for the night. The next morning we travel on tar to The Central Kalahari Game Reserve via Ratkops where we can refuel. We will camp at Deception for two nights and then make our way South over the next couple of days via Piper and Bape and onto Khutse for the last two nights. We will take day excursions in the surrounding area visiting waterholes and pans. This itinerary will really offer time to really unwind and get the city out of your system. Total distance approximately 2300km from JHB and back. A full itinerary and what to bring will be supplied at the pre trip meeting. Our hosts for this adventure will again be Mafunyane Adventures who promise a great experience with professional registered guides, back up vehicles and not forgetting great meals. Mafunyane Adventures will also set up a hot shower facility (just bring own water) and chemical toilets especially for the ladies and kids. The tour cost includes two full meals per day, all park and camping fees. Guide fees. Drinks, snacks and things of a personnel nature you will have to supply.

Cost of adventure R6295.00 per person. Kids 8-16 half price and under 8 are free. Maximum 8 vehicles.

Full itineraries will be sent to those booking. Balance of payment 4 weeks before departure. We will have a meeting closure to the time where more detail, what to bring etc. will be discussed.
